Concerned about tooth loss? Learn everything you need to know about dentures at South Burnett Dental Group

Tooth loss is a common condition and may require the need for dentures if significant loss occurs, but with many preconceived ideas behind this treatment we are here to clear up the rumours and give you the facts…

At South Burnett Dental Practice in Kingaroy we use dentures for our patients who are looking for a comfortable and natural solution for their missing teeth. While dentures are often associated with old age, unnatural appearances and poor functionality this stigma no longer sticks with this treatment. With advancements in dental technology and the ability to match your dentures to your jaw, and the structure of your mouth your denture can feel, look and function closely to your natural teeth. For patients who require full or partial extractions before dentures we can assess your mouth to determine a full treatment plan for your dental needs.

Different types of dentures

After your dental assessment we will determine whether you need any teeth extracted and the best dentures solution for your mouth. The following are some of the different dentures we have available:

  • Custom-made dentures – these will be specially colour matched and constructed to look just like your natural teeth, while more costly these dentures will fit comfortably and will go completely unnoticed in your mouth.
  • Conventional dentures – you will require approximately six visits to fit your dentures and during this time we can make alterations to ensure you are comfortable with the look and feel of your dentures.
  • Full dentures – a full denture commonly takes 2-4 weeks to fit and can last between five to ten years depending on how well you take care of them.

Will my dentures look and feel natural?

Like any change to your body, dentures will take some time to get used to, which can make eating and speaking difficult for the first couple of weeks while you’re adjusting to your new teeth. It is not unusual for a new denture to create sore spots on your gums. Simply call our practice and we will organise a time for your dentures to be adjusted.

Alternative treatments to dentures

For those patients who are looking for a more permanent solution for their missing teeth, we also offer dental implants. Dental implants are the closet replacement to your natural teeth. This solution involves actually implanting an artificial tooth root into your gums to secure your replacement tooth. Dental implants are beneficial because they are securely positioned in your mouth, and can be used without any harm to your neighbouring teeth. During your consultation with our team of highly trained dental professionals we will determine the best treatment for your tooth loss needs.
